Casual Japanese Phrases

I have collected some of the phrases used in casual Japanese.

Asa meshi mae	a piece of cake
Cho	“very” or “super.” or so. Eg: cho kawaii
Daijobu kana	I think that’s ok
Darui	means lazy, sluggish, or even comatose
Dasai	This word means “lame” or “uncool”. Japanese people say this word when they see or hear something/someone that’s unstylish or out of fashion.
Doki doki	Used to express excitement or nervousness
Doko iku?	Where are you gonna go?
doushita no	What’s wrong?
Fukuzatsu na	Complicated. (fukuzatsu na kankei, “complex relationship”
ganbatte	Do your best
Gatsu gatsu	If you’re ravenously hungry and devour your food, you could say ガツガツする (gatsu gatsu suru, “devouring”)
Gomen	Sorry
Gussuri	to sleep like a log.
hontoni?!	Really?!
I i yo	Douitashimashite / Welcome
Ichigo ichie	once in a lifetime. ichigo ichie no kikai, “once in a lifetime opportunity”
Ikemen	Handsome
Ippai	Full
Ishin denshin	heart-to-heart
Jiga jisan	Self-portrait, self-praise
kakko ii?	Do you like it?
Kanjou teki na	Emotional. Watshi no musume wa kanjou teki na naru.
kara kara	Thirsty. Nodo ga kara kara (喉がカラカラ, My throat is dry)
Kimoi	gross or creepy. Kazuya: uwa, ano zombi, chi ga yabai yo! （うわ、あのゾンビ、ちが やばいよ。）Look at the zombie, there’s so much blood on him! Nana: Kimoi! （キモい！）So creepy!
Kyoro kyoro miru	looking around curiously (or nervously)
Maji / Majide?	seriously?
maji de?”	Really?
Meccha	Very / Totemo
Mendoi	a pain in the neck.
Mukatsuku	So mad / disgusted
Nandayo ?	What's the problem? What the heck? - depends on the situation it can be good or rude.
Nande te nau?	Why?
Naruhodo	I understand
Nau	Now
Nonki na	cheerful and easygoing
Oishi katta	It was yummy
Ojama shimasu	“I’m sorry for intruding” or “I’m sorry for bothering you.” Whenever you enter someone’s home, you should say お邪魔します.
onaka suita	I'm hungry
oshakawa	stylish and cool
Otsukare	You worked hard
Peko peko	Starving. I’m starving” (Onaka ga peko peko). Onka - stomach
Sosoru	attractive / hot
sou dane	Sou desu ne - agreeing
Sou nanda?!	Sou nan desu ka? - Is it so?!!!
Sou nano?	Sou desu ka?!
Soudane	Sou desu ne. Yes - agreeing
Tekito	describes someone’s or something’s actions as lazy or careless. If someone is being too lazy to do the job right, you would use this word. Or suitable.
Ukeru	“that's funny,” “hilarious,” or “haha!”
Umai	wonderful,” “nice,” or “splendid.” You are singing songs very well - (Anata wa) uta ga umaine! This curry is very yummy! - Kono kare mecha umai!!
Un	Yes
Un, tabetayo	Ye, I ate
uso	No way!
Uun, mada tabetenaiyo	No, didn't eat yet
Uzai	“annoying.” You often hear うるさい (urusai) for both “noisy” and “annoying,” but you can also use this one to describe an annoying situation or person.
Yabai	Oh my god! / crazy
Yappari!	“I thought so!” or “I knew it! “ or I expected it.
yoroshiku ne	Nice to meet you
Zotto / zotto suru	If you get a cold chill, or you have a chill go down your spine from fear or seeing something gross. Zotto shita.
